The College of
Applied Sciences and Arts Dean's Office manages and operates two college-wide
networked student computing laboratories located in the MacQuarrie Hall (MH)
Building, rooms MH 321 and MH 332.
MH 321 is the main teaching lab. It is equipped with a teaching station (with
multimedia sound cards, speakers, scanner, and projection equipment), and 26
student stations. MH332 is equipped with a teaching station (with
multimedia sound cards, speakers, and projection equipment), and 27
student stations. Both
Labs include stations which meet the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines
to accommodate students with disabilities.
The computer labs may be scheduled
for one time single use by all faculty in the College who are teaching courses
which utilize technology for curriculum delivery. The guidelines for reserving
the lab are contained in section VII.
In addition, there will be open lab hours for use by all students, faculty,
and
staff in the College. Technical support staff,
and student lab monitors are available to provide technical assistance and
software support.

The College of Applied Sciences and Arts Computer laboratories in the MacQuarrie
Hall building are networked to provide Internet access. Computers in both labs
are running the Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system. **New software installation requests should be made during summer and winter breaks. The deadline for requesting new software installations is 2 weeks prior to semester start date. No software will be installed after that date or during the semester.

"A restricted temporary user account will be active for one week following
the first day of classes to allow for student computer access during the first
few class meetings. This account will have the USERID "student" with
a blank password. At the end of the one-week period this temporary account
will expire and be deactivated."
Faculty will have access to the computer
labs for both instructional delivery and development. Software and curriculum
development can be done during open
lab hours and/or faculty may schedule use of a lab for single use class meetings
during closed periods with the College of Applied Sciences and Arts' Scheduling
Coordinator, Ms. Theresa Marquez (x42903).
All workstations are running a mandatory profile that will look and act identical
to each other, regardless of who is logged on the system. Faculty and students
will not be able to write or delete on the local computer drive. This protects
the system from inadvertent program deletion and/or virus infections to the
network.

Students will be provided with
private storage space on a home directory drive "H:\My
Home Directory" on the NT2 server. The student will have full read and
write access to their private home directory. Students should not share USERID(s) and PASSWORD(s) with
anyone. Your password permits access to your home directory and is your security
key. Please refer to section VI. POLICIES/RULES GOVERNING
USE OF COMPUTER RESORUCES. Also, students should plan to back-up work on 3
1/2 disks, CD's, or a Memory stick. The Dean's Office cannot be responsible
for
work left on college servers.
Faculty will be provided with private
storage space on a home directory, drive "H:\My
Home Directory" on the nt2 server. Faculty will have full read and write
access to their home directory. Faculty should not share USERID(s) and PASSWORD(s) with anyone. Your password permits access to your home directory and is your
security key. Please refer to section VI. POLICIES/RULES GOVERNING USE OF COMPUTER
RESORUCES. In addition to the home directory, drive "H:\My Home Directory",
faculty will be provided with a drive "J:\Public\facultyname" for
posting coursework files for their students. The drive "J:\Public\facultyname" will
permit read and write access to faculty owners, and read only access to students.
The printer can be accessed by each computer
workstation. In order to receive a printed copy, students must go to the Computer
Lab monitor station. The student
lab monitor will collate print jobs, and hand the printed copies to the students.
Students enrolled in APSC 101, 201, HS 101, 167, and 267 are required to pay
a fee of $40 for printing in the labs located in MacQuarrie Hall 321 and 332.
The fee entitles students to print 100 pages per semester in the college labs.
If a student enrolled in these classes exhausts this 100-page allotment during
the semester, additional pages may be purchased from the lab monitor during
open lab hours MH 332.
All other students who wish to print during open lab hours or while in classes
not listed above must purchase printing separately. The price is 15¢ per
page. Students may purchase printed pages in advance from the lab monitor during
open lab hours in MH 332.
Students will not have access to the video projection equipment in the labs
without arrangements made in advance, with a faculty instructor.
The printer can be accessed by each computer workstation. Faculty may
pick-up their print jobs directly from the printer. Faculty are given an allotment
of 200 pages of printing per semester.
The video overhead projectors in both labs are networked and ready for instructional
use.

At the end of each semester
(the last day of finals), all student accounts and file storage space will
be deleted from the network. Eligible students
must request a new account at the beginning of each semester.
Faculty access to the computer
lab will be continuous with appointment status and file storage in drive "J:\Public\facutlyname" and drive "H:\My
Home Directory" will not be deleted every semester.

Two computer labs are available
for CASA class use: MH 321 and MH 332. Hardware and software are identical
in the two labs.
Either lab can be scheduled for computer-based classes by contacting the College
of Applied Sciences and Arts' scheduling coordinator, Ms. Theresa Marquez, via
email (tmarquez@casa.sjsu.edu). Classes that will meet in the lab on a regular
basis should be scheduled as the Schedule of Classes is being developed.
Classes will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis with the stipulation
that requests may not be made more than 2 weeks prior to the start of the
University’s class scheduling process. Each class will be scheduled
into the lab for final exams according to the Final Examination Schedule
published with the Schedule of Classes.
The computer labs can also be scheduled for single use for any class
by contacting the College of Applied Sciences and Arts' scheduling coordinator,
Theresa Marquez, via email (tmarquez@casa.sjsu.edu). Single use is one time
use in any semester for any class.
Requests for single use of either lab must be submitted during the final 2
weeks of the semester and no later than the end of the 5th teaching day of
the semester
in which the class is offered. For example, a request for Spring 07 semester
should be submitted between the final 2 weeks of the Fall 06 semester and the
5th day of Spring 07 semester. Requests are filled on a first-come-first-served
basis. After the 5th day of any semester, lab time not scheduled for a class
will be reserved for open lab use, and lab monitors' schedules will be established.
Requests will not be accepted after the 5th teaching day of the semester.
The MH 332 computer lab can be scheduled for occasional or intermittent use
classes by contacting the College of Applied Sciences and Arts' scheduling
coordinator, Theresa Marquez, via email (tmarquez@casa.sjsu.edu). This would
apply to classes that need to meet in the lab more than once in any one semester.
Before scheduling, please check the software available (click on link above)
to be certain that this lab will be meet your needs.
Requests for occasional or intermittent use of MH 332 may be submitted at
any time during the semester and are filled on a first-come-first-served basis.
Click on the links above for an inventory of software and equipment in the
CASA computer labs.
Effective date: September 30, 2006

Security is managed with an Omnilock keyless entry system. Entry into the
computer labs requires a seven digit access code. Each access code is unique
and is recorded by the lock memory system each time an entry is made. Each
entry made to the labs can be easily traced to a person by the access code
assigned.
Faculty will be assigned an access code to permit entry into the labs during
the semester for which he/she teaches a course in the labs. Other instructors
who need access to the labs during non open lab hours should contact the technical
support staff via email at: tech@casa.sjsu.edu to arrange to receive a code.
A minimum of 24 hours lead-time prior to the first class meeting is needed
for staff to assign and install this code. Please plan accordingly.
To prevent theft, faculty should not leave the labs unattended. Also, it is
critical that faculty ensure the door is closed and locked securely, and that
no-one is remaining in the lab before leaving.
Students will not be given access codes to the computer labs.
